$1.4M Nintendo Switch Load Stolen from Semi

A routine pre-trip inspection turned into a million-dollar mystery for one trucker hauling a trailer full of video games from Washington to Texas.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado, a massive shipment of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles worth about $1.4 million was reported stolen. The heist happened on June 17, at a Lowe’s Truck Stop in Bennett, Colorado.

The trucker, who had picked up the load from Nintendo of America’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington, was en route to a GameStop distribution hub in Grapevine, Texas. He told authorities he was unaware of the trailer’s exact contents, only that it contained games or toys. But when he performed his standard pre-trip inspection at the truck stop, he noticed signs of forced entry — and that’s when the scope of the theft became clear.

In total, 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, each valued at around $499, were boosted from the trailer. Whether the theft occurred at the truck stop or somewhere earlier along the route remains under investigation. Deputies are now asking the public for help tracking down leads in what they’re calling a felony theft.

Given the recent release, popularity, and high demand of the Switch 2, this wasn’t likely a random act. Some believe the thieves had insider knowledge or were tracking the shipment, potentially all the way from Washington.

Truckers, keep your eyes peeled — this wasn’t just a load of toys. With electronics theft on the rise, high-value loads like these are becoming prime targets. And for gamers: beware of shady online deals. These consoles can be tracked by serial number and may end up bricked if Nintendo identifies them as stolen.
