Nine people were killed after an 18-wheeler barreled through parked cars and food stands along the Pan-American Highway.
According to Border Report, the accident occurred on September 7th in Villa Ahumada, about 90 miles south of Juarez, Mexico. When the truck came to a stop in front of the Tejaban Benito Juarez restaurant, six were already dead at the scene. Three others were rushed to the hospital, where they died.
The next day, the Chihuahua Attorney General’s Office reported that 9 individuals were killed and 16 were left injured. In photos witnesses shared online, the truck can be seen on its side up against the food cart area.
Police were able to identify the driver as Saul A.D., 43, who was driving to Chihuahua City from Juarez.
This is not the first deadly accident in Villa Ahumada. The area is popular with visitors, whose tour busses typically stop to enjoy a meal by the side of the road. Earlier this year, another fatal incident occurred when a pickup truck hit a 18-wheeler by the side of the road.
