POV Video: Driver Uses Runaway Truck Ramp

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to use a runaway truck ramp, this video gives you a trucker’s POV.

Reddit user u/Emergency_Hurry8852 posted a video on r/Truckers recently that shows exactly what’s like to use one of those ramps. The dashcam video begins with the semi barreling down a highway with a cliff to the left and the runaway ramp to the right. The driver realizes the rig is out of control, so it veers to the right to take the steep ramp up hill. After 10 seconds of barreling up hill, the truck slows down and starts creeping backwards. The video ends abruptly, so we don’t see the aftermath, but the sand on the steep incline is designed to stop the truck before rolling too far down hill.

Below the video, one user wrote, “That’s why they are there. Did the right thing.”

It varies state to state, but in many places there is no fine to use these ramps in case of emergency. In most cases, the only cost to the driver would be for extracting the truck from the sand or gravel.

May be an image of 1 person, snowplow, ski slope and text that says 'PEOPLE SKIING ONA RUNAWAY TRUCK RAMP IS A LEVEL OF STUPIDITY I'VE NOT SEEN IN A LONG TIME.'
