Truck Fire Scrambles $100k of Eggs!
According to CBS News, a semi-truck hauling about 24,000 pounds of eggs caught fire in Mokena, Illinois. The fire erupted around 8:30 p.m. on April 11, resulting in the destruction of its entire cargo. Illinois State Police said the incineration happened on La Grange Road on Interstate 80. while the trucker was on his way to California. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The driver told reporters that the fire engulfed the front half of the truck, leading to the loss of the eggs. Cleanup crews were seen using heavy machinery to clear the damaged goods from the roadway. The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation.
Newsweek calculated the rough cost of the fire using the reported cargo weight and egg prices. They estimate the loss was over $100,000.
