Trucker’s Nightmare Comes to Life!
A dramatic dashcam video from 2018 has resurfaced on the r/Truckers subreddit and it’s giving drivers nightmares all over again. The footage shows a flatbed semi losing control on a steep, narrow road and toppling into a ravine off a narrow stretch of State Route 175 in Northern California.
Truckers in the comments are calling it the stuff of trucker nightmares. “This is honestly the kind of shit that happens in my dreams,” one wrote. Another added, “Dude! Same. I’ve had bad dreams almost exactly like this.” Amid the chaos, one user still found a silver lining, “At least the strapping job was pretty good. That load did not fall off.”
Watch the video below:
According to KRON4, who originally reported on the crash, the driver either missed or ignored multiple warning signs stating that trucks longer than 39 feet are prohibited on that road. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) confirmed that the stretch between Hopland and Lakeport is known for accidents involving oversized vehicles that disregard the restriction.
Caltrans said in a statement, “State Route 175 between Hopland and Lakeport is limited to vehicles NOT OVER 39 feet in total length! Our contractor’s crew was out working on SR 175 yesterday afternoon when they saw this long truck trying to make it through a one-lane section of highway where a retaining wall is being built.
Multiple signs are posted to warn truck drivers of this length restriction, but drivers continue to try to go through. Sometimes they simply get stuck, but others end up going over the embankment. This driver was not injured, but it must have been the ride of his life!”
