$15M in Meth Found in Carrot Truck!
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Pharr, Texas made a massive bust last week when they uncovered over $15 million worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a tractor trailer hauling carrots. It’s the second major drug seizure at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in less than a week—highlighting the continued efforts to stop dangerous drugs from entering the U.S. through commercial trucking routes.
According to the CBP release, officers inspected a semi entering from Mexico with a shipment of carrots. The vehicle was flagged for further inspection using advanced scanning technology and a K9 unit. That’s when officers discovered 311 packages of methamphetamine stashed inside the trailer. The haul totaled 1,706 pounds—nearly a ton of drugs with a street value estimated at $15.7 million.

“This second large load of methamphetamine in the last four days underscores the serious nature of the drug threat we face,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. He praised the skill of the CBP officers and the tools used to intercept these shipments before they can travel further north.
CBP seized both the narcotics and the commercial tractor-trailer. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has launched a criminal investigation into the smuggling attempt.
