Slick roads, thick fog, and confused drivers was a recipe for disaster on Interstate 90 Wednesday morning. Starting at 5:30 a.m., a grand total 38 vehicles were involved in a massive pileup crash.
Starting at 5:30 a.m., a grand total 38 vehicles were involved in a massive pileup crash, according to KOMO News. The wreck included 20 four-wheelers and 13 semis. This resulted in all lanes of I-90 being shut down while tow crews removed the wreckage from the road. Hundreds of semis had to wait off the highway until the closure was lifted 10 hours later.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Collin Cumaravel said that fog was the biggest factor in Wednesday’s wreck, but it wasn’t what started it. KOMO reported that the accident began when a trucker lost traction of his big rig and blocked all lanes when it came to a stop. The driver is the only individual facing any charges for the massive pileup.
Thankfully only three injuries were reported.
