The American Automobile Association has released its annual Thanksgiving Travel Forecast just in time for the holiday. Their studies show that Thursday’s traffic is expected to reach pre-pandemic numbers of travelers on the road.
According to AAA, 54.6 million people are predicted to travel over 50 miles from home this Thanksgiving Week. This would make 2022 the third-busiest Thanksgiving on the road since 2000. Mary Maguire, VP of Public and Government Affairs at AAA Northeast said, “Families and friends are eager to spend time together this Thanksgiving, one of the busiest for travel in the past two decades,” in AAA’s report.
AAA expects highways around Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles, to be filled with holiday travelers, making them the busiest roads this week. In AAA’s graphic below you can see the peak congestion times for some of the nation’s busiest cities this year.
