Dashcam: Semi Smashes Into Stopped Cop

A wild dashcam video making the rounds online has truckers debating who’s really at fault after a police SUV suddenly stopped on the interstate — leaving a semi with nowhere to go.

In the clip, traffic is moving normally when a police SUV abruptly comes to a complete stop in the middle lane. It appears the officer stopped to avoid hitting a cooler sitting in the roadway, but with vehicles packed into both the left and right lanes, the dashcam semi had no escape route.

The truck driver hits the brakes, but there’s simply not enough room to stop in time. The semi plows into the back of the SUV, shoving it forward and into a Penske box truck traveling in the left lane. The impact sends debris flying across the highway as traffic scrambles around the crash.

A lot of truckers online were quick to criticize the officer’s decision to stop dead in the roadway instead of trying to maneuver around the object or continue forward. One commenter joked, “At least the cooler is safe,” while another wrote, “No lights, no flashers, just come to a dead stop on a freaking freeway… what could possibly go wrong?”

Based on highway signs visible in the footage, the incident appears to have happened somewhere near Omaha, Nebraska, though exact details about injuries or citations haven’t been released.
