A drunk driver had to be airlifted to the hospital after running a red light and crashing under a tractor trailer in Illinois.
According to Lake & McHenry County Scanner, the Antioch Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a wreck around 6:30 a.m. on June 19. Investigators learned that the trucker was driving northbound on Route 45 when a speeding BMW ran a red light and crashed into the semi.
The impact wedged the BMW under the semi’s trailer and trapped the driver. Rescue crews worked to extract the driver from the wreckage, and he was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol.
