A blazing semi-truck fire sparked a bushfire that closed I-90.
News Talk 870 reported that a big rig on the side of I-90 in Grant County, Washington caught fire on July 24. The Washington State Department of Transportation and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said that the sparks spread to nearby brush and led to the surrounding area catching fire.
Both lanes of I-90 were closed all day while the flames blazed through the area. Fire crews worked tirelessly to quell the flames, and eventually were able to tame them enough for both lanes to reopen that evening.
A witness who claimed to drive past the scene said the truck overheated going up Ryegrass Pass. The trucker was reportedly able to get out just before the semi burst into flames, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
UPDATE: I-90 is closed EB at MP 115 near Kittitas and WB at MP 136 at Vantage Bridge due to a brush fire, which started after a semi-truck caught on fire. Still no estimated time for reopening. pic.twitter.com/aTWL8CNQaj
