School bus and semi collide, injuring three children

Three children suffered serious injuries when their school bus smashed into a semi-truck in Chase County, Nebraska.

News Channel Nebraska reported that the school bus was making a left turn when it collided with a tractor trailer hauling grain. The semi hit the back passenger side of the bus, which rotated it 90 degrees and caused it to overturn. The truck continued on northbound on the road before stopping close by.

Police reported that 11 students, from 6 to 15-years old, were on the bus during the incident. The students and their bus driver were all transported to the local county hospital, with three children later transported to the trauma center.

The bus was a 2020 Integrated CES, owned by Chase County schools and the truck was a 1992 Peterbilt semi-tractor. Local police, fire department, and EMS all responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

According to the National Safety Council, an average of 12,800 injuries occurred in accidents involving school busses from 2010-2020.
