A Texas man was arrested after stealing a semi-truck and attempting to run over a police officer.
According to the Gonzales Inquirer, police officers in Gonzales, Texas were called to the site of a hit-and-run. When they arrived to the scene, officers were told that the suspect escaped on foot. While speaking to the victim of the accident, a GPD sergeant noticed a suspicious semi-truck.
The big rig was speeding through the area and came barreling towards the sergeant and victim. It didn’t slow down, nor did it swerve out of the way. Luckily, the two were able to jump out of the 18-wheeler’s way and avoided injury. However, the semi did strike the victim’s vehicle again before speeding onto US 183.
The semi hit several more vehicles on the highway as it fled from police cruisers. The truck eventually came to a stop, and its driver tried to escape on foot. GPD was able to detain him, and confirmed that he was the same suspect who reportedly hit the first victim’s car.
The driver was identified as Johnny Ray Longoria Jr. He was charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer or Fireman and five counts of aggravated assault with deadly weapon,” according to Gonzales Police Department. On top of those charges, Longoria was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unauthorized use of motor vehicle, and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle.
Longoria’s bond amounts to $890,000 as he remains in jail.
