WATCH: Drone Footage Shows Derailed Train Wreckage

This drone footage really puts this accident into perspective.

On March 16, a massive train derailment occurred in Glendale, Kentucky. WHAS11 reported that a tractor trailer was stuck on the tracks, and the CSX train derailed when it tried to prevent the collision.

They reported that when the train spotted the trapped trailer, it took emergency action to prevent a disaster. Unfortunately, 21 railcars ended up derailing. One of the runaway cars crashed into an occupied vehicle, injuring its occupants. Thankfully their injuries weren’t serious or life threatening.

See aerial footage of the derailment below:

This is the second derailment to happen in Glendale in the past year. The first happened in July 2022.

CSX released the following statement: CSX continues working to restore the site where a train derailed Thursday afternoon while stopping to avoid a semi-truck and trailer that was stuck on a crossing in Glendale, KY. Overnight, crews moved all derailed cars to a staging area so that track repairs could begin and train service resumed. CSX confirmed a total of 21 railcars containing automobiles derailed. Recovery efforts will continue until the area is fully cleared and restored. We have contacted property owners affected by the incident and are working with them. CSX appreciates the swift, professional response of local first responders.
