What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into a violent scene on the 4th of July.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol recently released bodycam video of an officer sicking a K-9 on an unarmed trucker. According to Cleveland 19 News, the incident began when a Motor Carrier Enforcement inspector noticed a semi was missing a back left mud flap. When the inspector tried to pull the big rig over, the trucker fled and embarked on a chase that attracted the attention of multiple law enforcement vehicles.
The trucker, 23-year-old Jadarrius Rose, finally pulled over on U.S. 35 near Circleville and exited the semi with his hands up. As state troopers gave him verbal commands, local police released their canine to attack the trucker. In the video, you can hear troopers telling officers not to release the dog while Rose had his hands in the air.
“As troopers were attempting to gain compliance by providing verbal commands to the suspect, the Circleville Police Department deployed their canine, which resulted in the suspect being bitten by the canine,” said Sergeant Ryan E. Purpura, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Rose was treated with first aid on the scene, taken to the hospital, and later released. No other details have been revealed yet, but the incident is under investigation.
