Just one month after a Nikola electric semi caught fire, another spontaneously went up in flames.
On June 23, we reported that multiple big rigs caught fire at Nikola’s Phoenix Headquarters, causing the company to suspect foul play. However, the Phoenix Fire Department denied those claims and said there was no evidence of arson.
On July 24, a report Inside EVs stated one of the charred semis reignited. According to the report, Nikola said, “”At approximately 2 pm today at Nikola HQ, one of the trucks that was previously damaged reignited. No one was injured and the fire was quickly contained.”
The burned Nikola Tre BEV Class 8 electric truck was being stored at the Phoenix HQ while the company investigated the cause of the fire. No other details were released by Nikola.
KTAR News reported that the cause of this week’s fire was the battery cells generating heat of over 800 degrees. The flames proved difficult for the fire crews to quench, as the process of cooling the batteries took nearly an entire day. Firefighters doused the semi with thousands of gallons of water to fight the flames until they went out.
Nikola has stated that they are investigating the fire internally and with a third-party team of engineers. Results should be released in the coming weeks.
