Out-of-Control Car Slams Into Semi on I-80
A dashcam video making the rounds online shows just how fast things can go wrong on slick winter roads, and how much skill it takes to keep a bad situation from getting worse.
This footage, posted by u/jday112 on r/Truckers, was recorded on I-80 west near Cleveland. It shows an orange semi driving in the far right lane under winter conditions. Then, a white sedan drives ahead in the far left lane and continues ahead before suddenly hitting a slick patch of road. The car immediately loses control, slams hard into the left concrete barrier, then ricochets back across the lanes. Within seconds, the out-of-control sedan crosses all the way into the right lane and collides with the semi.
The impact causes the semi to lose stability, but the dashcam driver reacts quickly. Despite being struck unexpectedly, the trucker is able to regain control of the rig and avoid crashing into any other vehicles. That recovery likely prevented the situation from turning far more serious.
What makes the moment even more intense is that topped vehicles and people were already on the shoulder dealing with a separate overturned semi in the same area. Had the orange semi not stayed upright and under control, there’s a real chance those drivers and bystanders could have been caught in a secondary crash.
