A wild scene unfolded when a semi truck hauling a forklift snagged overhead power lines, sending a shower of sparks across a busy intersection.
Traffic camera footage shows the lowboy trailer carrying the forklift traveling through the intersection when the load caught the overhead utility lines. Within seconds, multiple power lines were ripped down, creating bright flashes and showers of sparks as they fell onto the roadway. The incident happened in Toms River, New Jersey.
The dramatic video shows drivers in nearby vehicles stopping as the wires came crashing down. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the damaged lines caused traffic disruptions while utility crews responded to repair the scene.
Watch here:
It’s not clear what the exact height of the load was or whether route planning or clearance issues contributed to the incident. Oversized and over-height loads require careful planning to avoid bridges, traffic signals, and overhead utility lines, and even a small miscalculation can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.
For everyone nearby, the falling power lines and flying sparks made for a close call. Thankfully, it appears no one was injured.
