Things got out of hand fast at a truck stop in Amarillo, and now one driver is facing serious consequences after road rage turned into a felony case.
According to News Channel 10, police responded to an assault at a Love’s Truck Stop near I-40 East and Whitaker Road back in April of 2025. When officers arrived, they found a 77-year-old man who reported being injured during a fight.
The trucker, identified as Dennis Eugene Massengill, told officers that the altercation started after the other driver cut him off and pulled into the truck stop parking lot. Court documents state that the two men exchanged words, and Massengill claimed the other man threw the first punch.
But the video told a different story…
Massengill handed over the SD card from his truck’s dashcam, and when officers reviewed the footage, they saw Massengill approach the man aggressively and throw the first punch. Police then went inside the store to review additional security footage from the truck stop to confirm what happened. While officers were still inside reviewing video, Massengill left the scene.
A Potter County grand jury has now indicted him on a charge of injury to an elderly individual, which is a third-degree felony in Texas. That charge carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Massengill later posted a $15,000 bond.
The video has not been released to the public.
Stay safe and keep a cool head out there, truckers.
