Trucker Rescued from Dangling Semi on Bridge!
“Will you guys please help me? I’m about to fall down from the bridge . . . I don’t want to die.”
That chilling quote came from a trucker suspended over the edge of a bridge after a serious crash this past weekend. The emotional 911 call lasted 18 minutes as rescue crews rushed to the scene while the driver clung to life inside the cab—dangling on the Kennedy Bridge high above the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky.
The accident happened on southbound I-65 near the Kentucky-Indiana border. According to WHAS11, the impact of the crash left the truck’s cab hanging partially off the bridge. The driver was trapped inside, unable to move, fearing that any shift in weight might cause the cab to tip further. “I’m really afraid to move in the truck right now,” the driver told the dispatcher.
Emergency responders, including the Louisville Fire Department, was sent to the scene while the 911 operator reassured the trucker that help was on the way. “They’re going to get you out, OK? They’ve got so many people out there,” the dispatcher said.
At one point, the terrified trucker asked, “If I don’t survive, can you leave the recording for my family?”
Hear the call and watch the brave rescue:
Thankfully, the rescue was a success. LFD crews were able to stabilize the vehicle and pull the driver to safety after about 30 tense minutes. Despite the terrifying situation, the driver was unharmed.
This accident was similar to another incident that happened in Louisville last year. A similar dramatic rescue took place on the Clark Memorial Bridge when a trucker was dangling above the Ohio River. Even the 911 dispatcher made the connection during the call, “This happened about, I want to say, about a year and a half ago as well, and they got the person out.”
Once again, Louisville’s first responders proved their skill, bravery, and quick thinking in the life and death situation.
