Semi Busted With 3,000 lbs. of Marijuana on 4/20

This trucker took 4/20 a little too seriously.

WDIV Local 4 reported that a semi-truck carrying over 3,000 lbs. of marijuana was busted in Detroit on April 20.

United States Customs and Border Protection found the weed after they sent the semi for further screening at a border cargo facility. During the truck’s inspection, officers found that the big rig was hauling tires. However, stuffed inside the tires were numerous packages of marijuana wrapped in packing paper.

The Port Director, Devin Chamberlain, praised Border Protection for their hard work. “The CBP officers in Detroit continue to work diligently, day and night, to accomplish our border security mission in order to protect our nation and the communities we serve,” he said.

The semi-truck, tires, and 3,175 pounds of marijuana were all confiscated by authorities. CBP officials reiterated that importing marijuana into the country remains illegal due to its classification as a Schedule 1 controlled substance.
