A family traveling through Oklahoma had a terrifying close call when an out-of-control semi-truck crossed the median and rolled into oncoming traffic. The frightening moment was captured on dashcam as the family narrowly escaped a collision with the massive truck.
The incident happened on I-35 near Ardmore, Oklahoma. According to Yahoo, the semi suddenly lost control while traveling on the opposite side of the interstate, sliding across the grassy median and into the path of approaching vehicles. The family was forced off the roadway and onto the shoulder to avoid being struck.
Watch the dashcam footage:
Texas resident Ed Dehoyos was driving home with his family after a weekend trip to Oklahoma, where his daughter had attended a cheerleading clinic at the University of Oklahoma. They were about an hour into their drive when Dehoyos noticed the semi crossing the median. The truck overturned, sending its trailer sweeping across the highway. A pickup traveling ahead of the family was reportedly clipped by the trailer, while Dehoyos managed to steer clear of the wreckage.
“I had my eyes on the road, and I caught that semi-truck clearly go across the median,” Dehoyos told reporters. “We said an immediate and simple prayer like god, thank you for protecting us. Thank you for protecting those families,” said Dehoyos. We give him all the glory. We don’t know what happened to the driver. So we hope that he or she is okay.”
The crash caused major traffic disruptions, with both directions of I-35 near mile marker 37 closed for more than seven hours as crews worked to clear the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the crash has not been confirmed.
