Talk about a trucking nightmare!
Drivers in South Carolina got an unexpected surprise when a semi-truck hauling hundreds of pumpkins spilled its spooky cargo across the roadway. The unusual accident happened on October 15 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, as an 18-wheeler was exiting the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge onto Coleman Boulevard.
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the truck struck a tree limb shortly before 1 p.m., causing extensive damage to its trailer and sending hundreds of pumpkins tumbling onto the pavement. The mess forced authorities to close two right lanes of Coleman Boulevard, creating significant traffic delays for motorists entering town. Photos shared by police showed the damaged trailer surrounded by pumpkins scattered across the road.
As it turns out, the pumpkins had traveled all the way from New Mexico and were headed to Hibben United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. According to Live 5 News, the church planned to sell the pumpkins as part of a seasonal fundraiser benefiting local and statewide nonprofit organizations. Unfortunately, the accident interrupted the delivery, and it was not immediately clear how many pumpkins were damaged or whether any could be recovered.
Crews eventually cleared the roadway and reopened the affected lanes, bringing an end to the traffic nightmare. Thankfully nobody was hurt in this incident.
