Heroic Trucker Awarded for Extinguishing Highway Fire

In a moment of selfless bravery, a heroic trucker stopped a blazing fire from spreading on the side of a highway.

According to the Highway Angel website, Christopher Blount was driving on I-10 near Houston, Texas when he saw a concerning sight. On the side of the road, Blount spotted a burning car with its driver watching while on the phone.

“I wanted to stop and help him out and try to put out the fire, because [it] looked like it was starting to get worse. The fire was starting to go from gray smoke to black smoke and I was concerned about it getting to the gas tank,” Blount told TCA.

While other vehicles passed the burning car by and before first responders arrived, Blount pulled over and prepared his fire extinguisher. He checked to make sure no one was stuck in the car, and then doused the engine. He was able to quell the flames before firefighters arrived.

“The driver was very thankful. As soon as I actually got the fire out, the firetrucks got there,” said Blount.

He joins almost 1,300 other Highway Angels, who are also truckers that stepped up to help others in time of need.
