A wild dashcam video out of New York shows the moment a tractor-trailer smashes into an overpass, sending debris flying before the entire rig tips over and slides across the highway.
According to ABC News, the crash happened around 12:20 p.m. on Monday, August 10, on southbound I-87/New York State Thruway in South Nyack, New York. According to reports, the tractor-trailer struck the South Broadway Bridge overpass in Rockland County.
Dashcam footage from a nearby AAA Carting truck captured the crash from beginning to end.
In the video, the semi can be seen traveling down the highway toward the overpass. Just before reaching the bridge, the driver appears to hit the brakes, but it’s already too late.
The top of the trailer slams into the underside of the bridge, sending a massive cloud of debris across the interstate. The force of the impact causes the rig to tip onto its right side before sliding down the highway and blocking multiple lanes. Nearby motorists can be seen braking and maneuvering away from the wreck as debris scatters across the road.
