According to Fox 8, a shipment of eggs valued at approximately $40,000 was stolen from Pete & Gerry’s Organics in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The stolen eggs numbered to about 100,000 and cost about $5 per dozen. The haul of eggs were taken from the back of a distribution trailer, but it has not been disclosed exactly how the heist took place.
“We’re relying on leads from people from the community. So we’re hoping that somebody knows something, and they’ll call us and give us some tips,” Pennsylvania State Police Trooper First Class Megan Frazer, told Fox 8. “In my career, I’ve never heard of a hundred thousand eggs being stolen. This is definitely unique.”
Due to the hefty $40,000 price of the stolen eggs, this crime is classified as a felony.
No suspects have been found yet, but police are following up with potential witnesses and investigating security footage to help them identify the thief.
