A nasty collision in Virginia left a septic truck destroyed and sewage spilled across the scene after a freight train slammed into the vehicle at a railroad crossing.
According to Fox News, the crash happened around 4 p.m. on May 14 in Chesapeake. Video captured by a witness shows the septic truck attempting to cross the tracks just as an oncoming Norfolk Southern freight train barrels into the side of it.
The impact sends the truck flying off the crossing before it overturns, spilling sewage from the tank across the ground nearby. The footage is hard to watch, especially considering how little time there was between the truck entering the crossing and the train arriving.

Police say preliminary findings suggest the truck driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign before crossing the tracks. Authorities also noted that the crossing is a private crossing without the usual warning gates or flashing signals drivers are used to seeing at public railroad crossings. Witness Azuriah O’Daniel, who recorded the video, told local media the train conductor was laying on the horn trying to warn the truck driver before impact.
When first responders arrived, they found the truck overturned and the male driver suffering from life-threatening injuries. Reports later stated the driver was in stable condition. Police also said the wreck caused a minor fuel-related hazmat situation, though officials said there was no immediate danger to the public.
Whether you’re hauling fuel, equipment, or even a septic load, taking an extra second at the tracks can make all the difference.
